St David’s Message PDF Print E-mail
St David’s message this year to the Senedd expresses the desire that the elected politicians will understand the severity of the global changes that face us and follow the teachings of Dewi himself, who had one of the smallest carbon footprints going.

The message from Whitland is as follows:

This Year 2010, is the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Hywel Dda Centre at Hendy Gwyn ar Dâf by the Rt Honourable Elwyn Jones on 29 June 1985. The centre was built to celebrate the codification of Welsh laws in the 10th century in this ancient community on the banks of the River Tâf in Carmarthenshire.

Since 2003, a National Senate in Cardiff has been growing in importance as the place where the modern laws of Wales are devised and enacted by the elected members of our National Assembly.

There is a thread, which runs throughout our history which binds these two institutions together, and it is the fervent wish of those who recognise the importance of the Laws of Hywel ap Cadell, that our modern elected representatives in our National Senate, will legislate in the same spirit which guided our ancestors: The spirit of community, fairness, equality and hospitality to which all of us in our country have traditionally aspired.

Who was St.David? PDF Print E-mail

Above politics and petty differences, St David is a peerless, noble figurehead for the Welsh nation, a unifying and benevolent symbol in a dangerous and greedy world.

In the Armes Prydain, an epic written more than a thousand years ago, the poet prophesied that in the future, when all might seem lost to us, the Cymry would unite to follow David as their leader: 'A lluman glân Dewi a ddyrchafant' ..... 'And they will raise the pure banner of Dewi' .
