The tenth National St David's Day Parade in Cardiff, to be held on Thursday March 1st, has caught the imagination of the people of Wales, growing from a few hundred at the first event to attract thousands of participants, spectators and international media interest.

As usual, 'St David' in period costume will take the lead, followed by the colourful banners of the princes of Wales, massed flags of St David's own banner (gold cross on a black field) and Wales' unique Red Dragon. The spectacle will also inculde pipers and dancers in costume from Brittany and community arts performers featuring pupils from Fitzalan High School, with jazz band Wonderbrass. Other attractions include Welsh fiddlers in traditional costume; representatives from the FWA (national football team) and other sports representatives and community groups, such as the Nepalese community in Wales.

Parade Coordinator Marc Evans said: "Many schools join the parade each year and five schools have been working with artists to make their own Welsh hero 'Giants.' Spectators can join in the fun by dressing up - rugby shirts, big daffodils and dragons in all sizes usually turn up to the delight of photographers. We'd be delighted to have more performers, dancers and musicians in the parade.

"The parade's founding principles are to stage a happy, non-political and non-military event, which includes children, young people and community groups."

NOTES

The Parade is the first event in a new St David's Festival, which includes concerts, performances and a Welsh boxing challenge spectacular. Hotels, shops and the city library will also be joining the festival. The St David's Festival commences with the Parade and details of the other events will shortly appear on the Council and VisitCardiff websites.

The 2012 National St David's Day Parade will muster from 11.30am, on Thursday March 1st, in King George VII Avenue, Cardiff (between the City Hall and the Law Courts) and commence at 12.30 - progressing past the castle, down High St.-St Mary St., around by Mill Lane to the Hayes by 1.15-1.20, ending with singing of the national anthem. A route map will be printed with the next edition of Capital Times. Groups must be in position at the muster point, where they will have an allotted place, by 12.00.

If you are not taking part, the best places to view the parade are on its route: at the castle end of Queen St./Working St./in front of Burger King; along the length of High St.-St. Mary St.; along the final stretch of the Hayes from the new Library to Hayes Island.

Times and content of the parade are subject to change from arising circumstances.

GORYMDAITH GENEDLAETHOL GŴYL DEWI 2012

Mae degfed Gorymdaith Genedlaethol Gŵyl Dewi, a gynhelir ar Ddydd Iau, Mawrth 1af, yn sicr o ddenu mwy fyth o sylw a chefnogaeth wrth i'r digwyddiad lliwgar dyfu mewn poblogrwydd, gan ddisgwyl nid cannoedd fel y tro cyntaf, ond rhai miloedd i'w gwylio ac i orymdeithio.

Bydd 'Dewi Sant' yn ei wisg lais ar flaen yr orymdaith fel arfer, gyda gosgordd o lumanau Dewi (croes aur ar frethyn du) baner tywysogion Cymru a gosgordd baneri'r Ddraig Goch yn ei ddilyn. Fe'u dilynir gan sŵn cyffrous pibyddion bagad o Lydaw, gyda'i dawnswyr yn eu gwisgoedd prydferth; dawnswyr o'r gymuned leol, gan gynnwys disgyblion o Ysgol Fitzalan ynghyd â cherddorion jazz Wonderbrass.

Bydd yno ffidlwyr a dawnswyr mewn gwisgoedd traddodiadol cymreig; cynrychiolwyr tîm peldroed Cymru a champau eraill a grwpiau megis cymuned Nepal Cymru.

Meddai Cydlynydd yr Orymdaith, Marc Evans: "Bydd nifer o ysgolion yn cymryd rhan bob blwyddyn ac mae pump eisoes wedi bod yn llunio modelau mawr o Gewri'r Cymry. Mae croeso i wylwyr fwynhau'r hwyl trwy wisgo'n addas - crysau rygbi, siolau mam-gu neu wisgo fel dreigiau - mae'r ffotograffwyr wrth eu boddau!

Ymhlith atyniadau eraill, bydd cyngherddau a pherfformiadau, a Gornest Baffio genedlaethol. Bydd gwestai, siopau a llyfrgell y dref hefyd ymysg y partneriaid a daw rhagor o fanylion i'r golwg toc ar wefan Cyngor Caerdydd.

Bydd 10fed Gorymdaith Genedlaethol Gŵyl Dewi 2012 yn ymgynnull o 11.30 y bore ymlaen ar Ddydd Iau Mawrth 1af yn Rhodfa'r Brenin Siôr VII, (rhwng Neuadd y Ddinas a'r Llys Barn) ac yn cychwyn am 12.30 - gan ymlwybro heibio'r castell, i lawr Stryd Fawr/Heol Eglwys Fair a thrwy Lôn y Felin i gyrraedd Ynys yr Ais erbyn tua 1.15-1.20, gan orffen trwy ganu Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau. Cyhoeddir y llwybr yn fanwl ar glawr rhifyn nesaf Llais y Ddinas. Rhaid i bob grŵp fod yn ei le priodol erbyn 12.00 p.m.
